Compost starter -- This bottle covers 90 gallons of material. The activator contained in this bottle will jump starts your newly added material, like leaves, grass and kitchen scraps. Easy to use instructions are on the bottle.

Bio Bags will naturally break down in your composter. One box of 25 bags are included in this kit. The bags hold 3 gallon of material and decompose in 10 to 45 days. These small biodegradable bags fit inside our green compost pail and stainless steel compost pail as liners. They come in a 3 gallon size.

When they're full, you can throw them directly into your compost bin and they will compost along with the materials inside. The bag feels kind of like plastic, but it is actually made from corn!

Although they're made from natural corn, they won't spoil on the shelf like food products. They are completely shelf stable, just like paper towels, toilet paper, and paper plates. These composting bags have no chemical additives to speed decomposition. The bags will biodegrade naturally when they come into contact with the natural elements and micro-organisms found in a compost pile.

Keep in mind that BioBags are designed for use as a composting material and they are to be returned naturally to the soil. This means that you need to expose them to plenty of oxygen so that they can biodegrade properly.

If you place them in a compost bin and turn the compost regularly, this will aid in the process. Micro-organisms found in compost piles will also help to break down all biodegradable materials, including your BioBags.

In "open" or "turned" landfills, BioBags will break down at about the same rate as other similarly biodegradable materials that are found in these solid waste disposal areas.

What happens when you send BioBags to an anaerobic or "air-locked" landfill? BioBags, as well as all biodegradable materials placed in these kinds of landfills, don't decompose very well. This is because they are not exposed to the oxygen and microorganisms that help break down biodegradable substances including newspapers, yard waste and kitchen waste.

If you hear of a product whose manufacturer claims that it will break down rapidly in an anaerobic landfill, you should be very suspicious. These kinds of landfills simply don't allow the rates of decomposition that open air landfills and compost piles allow.

When exposed to both fresh and salt water, BioBags biodegrade equally well. Studies conducted in Australia suggest that decomposition occurs in between 8-14 months. But remember: throwing any garbage into fresh water sources or the ocean can still contaminate the water, so always dispose of your Biobags properly!

It's always best to place your BioBags directly in the compost pile.

More BioBag features:

# 1 order includes 5 boxes of 25 bags per box. 125 bags total.
# BioBag products meet the ASTM D6400 specification and are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute.
# BioBag products meet California law SB 1749, which sets restrictions for biodegradable and compostable product claims.
# BioBags are certified GMO Free.
# BioBags are polyethylene free.
# BioBags are DEN certified for restricted use of metals in the soy-based inks and dyes used.
# BioBags unlike most plastic bags, allow heat and moisture to escape and evaporate. Because they breathe, this helps reduce the production of bacteria in the bags which can cause strong odors.
# Complete decomposition of the BioBags averages 10-45 days in a controlled composting environment. After they decompose, they leave behind no harmful deposits.
# When placed in a compost bin or other suitable environment, BioBags decompose at rate comparable to other naturally biodegradable materials, such as fallen leaves, paper, and organic kitchen scraps.

This Compost thermometer is easy to read and the dial tells you if your pile is not doing well or needs a little help. The 1 ¾ dial is easy to read and features a plastic no fog lens. Measures twenty inches long. Maintaining a high temperature is critical for rapid composting. This compost thermometer is a great way to keep an eye on your compost and ensure that bacteria are working at an optimal temperature. Save time and avoid doing unnecessary turning or tumbling.

Bacteria are responsible for breaking down food scraps. These bacteria work best at 120 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit, and they need fresh oxygen without being exposed to too much cold air. With this compost thermometer, you can tell when the compost is cooling down, and only turn the pile when it needs fresh air.

The thermometer will also help prevent scalding and show you when the compost is finished. For very large compost piles, there's a risk of spontaneous combustion. You certainly don't want to put your hand into 180 degree compost without any warning - this compost thermometer can reach deep into the compost pile and help you spot danger signs.

Ever wonder exactly how hot that compost pile of yours really is? Well, now you can find out for sure and keep your compost nice and hot to break it down faster.

This compost thermometer is ideally suited for measuring the interior temperature of a compost bin or pile. The thermometer is hermetically sealed, which means you can leave it in your pile overnight without the fear of it fogging up!
